Sözer; başlangıçta Zürih, İsviçre ve Los Angeles Kaliforniya'da mimarlık eğitimi aldı. 15 yıl uygulamalı olarak bu mesleğini icra ettikten ve öğretici olarak da çalışmasının ardından film yapımcılığı alanında çalışmak üzere okuluna geri döndü.
