Mozart, the genius who steered the course of the World’s music history, carried in his person an unusual personality, befitting his ingenuity and unaccustomed musical prowess. This uniqueness incurred him a challenge for adapting both his eccentric character and his music to the norms of the time’s society and conforming to the standards of the appreciation and apprehension of music in the circles of the time’s venerated artists. One of the most prestigious members of these circles, Salieri, on his meeting with Mozart, this perplexing figure who has abrupt manners, foul language, and an unpeered creative rigour, gets baffled so much that he finds it hard to contain his envy, excitement, and amazement. Soon, their relationship takes on a shady turn. In this masterwork, we will look at this relationship from the experience of Salieri. Salieri, who harbours indignation for Mozart, this genius’s unconventional disposition, and Mozart, who in time finds himself overwhelmed by external pressures, form a tenuous existence which oscillates between giftedness, fear of transgression of tradition, and immortality.
