    Kahramanmaraş’ta, sekiz çocuklu, fakir bir ailenin kızı olarak, çadırda başladığı hayatına birçok üzüntü ve hüzün sığdırdı Dilber Ay… 13 yaşında para karşılığı, kendinden yaşça büyük bir adama satıldı, evlendiler, çocukları oldu. Şarkı söylediği için dayak yedi, işkence çekti ama o, yaşadığı bütün acılara inat, Allah vergisi sesinden aldığı güçle adım attığı sahnelerde zirveyi de gördü, hapishaneyi de… Hiç yılmadı. Hep şarkı söyleyerek çıktı düştüğü dipsiz kuyulardan.
