Wild Strawberries, shot right after The Seventh Seal, is one of Ingmar Bergman's optimistic and humorous films. Victor Sjöström, the master actor of the silent cinema era, plays the role of 78-year-old retired doctor Isak Borg, who goes from Stockholm to Lund to receive an award given to him. The hitchhikers he encounters on the country roads cause the secretive and cold doctor, who feels his old age, to frequently think about his own past, and his life flashes before his eyes. Oscillating between dreams, memories and roads, Wild Strawberries, for which Bergman wrote the script while he was in the hospital, tells a multi-layered road story about missed youth opportunities and parent-child relationships.
