        Bir varmış bir yokmuş. Evvel zaman içinde, kalbur saman içinde, tembel mi tembel Memiş varmış… Oğlunun tembelliği ve sorumsuzluğu yüzünden annesi çok yakınırmış. Kimselere yardım etmeyen, kendi işlerini bile yapmayan Memiş’in tek derdi kırlarda uzanıp keyif yapmakmış. Tembelliği yüzünden sevdiği kız Güllü kendisiyle evlenmek istemeyince, düşünmüş taşınmış ve hiç yorulmadan, çalışmadan zengin olup evlenmenin çaresini aramaya başlamış. Çareyi mutlu ülkede yaşayan Hızır’a sormakta bulan Memiş, uzun mu uzun bir yolculuğa çıkmış. Hızır’dan cevabını alıp dönüş yolunda çalışmanın ve emeğin değerini anlayan Memiş, sonunda muradına ermiş…
