        Fıkra anlatmayı seven ama temizlik yapmaktan hiç  hoşlanmayan Matilde, doktor  Lane'nin  evinde temizlikçidir. Ancak temizlik yapmak yerine fıkra uydurmaya çalışması Lane’i endişelendirir. Evini temizlemekten  başka bir işi olmayan ve kendini çok yalnız hisseden Virginia ise kız kardeşinin evine gelip Matilde'nin yerine evi temizlemek ister. Bu sırada Lane'nin eşi cerrah Charles ameliyat ettiği hastası Ana'ya aşık olur ve onu karısıyla tanıştırmak için eve getirir. Ancak onları bekleyen bir sürpriz vardır.
